MC2 Data - Data Leak:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the reported MC2 Data leak.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Cybersecurity media outlet Cybernews has reported a massive data leak at MC2 Data estimated to have impacted the private information of 106,316,633 United States citizens—roughly one-third of the nation’s population.
MC2 Data is a background check firm that compiles data from a wide range of public sources to create profiles that employers, landlords and others can use to make decisions. The company runs several background check websites, including PrivateRecords.net, PrivateReports, PeopleSearcher, and PeopleSearchUSA.
According to the news report, a Cybernews research team discovered on August 7, 2024 that MC2 Data left a database containing 2.2 terabytes of private information in an internet-accessible environment without any password protection. The researchers claim the leak was likely due to human error and affected individuals and organizations who required background checks, as well as employers, landlords, law enforcement and other entities that subscribed to MC2 Data’s services.
Information potentially compromised in the MC2 Data leak, Cybernews says, includes names, emails, home addresses, IP addresses, user agents, encrypted passwords, partial payment information, dates of birth, phone numbers, property records, legal records, employment histories, and data about family, relatives and neighbors.
MC2 Data has not yet confirmed reports of the potential data leak.
If your information was exposed in the data leak, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the data incident, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force MC2 Data to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
