Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, which provides treatment in orthopaedics, neurosurgery and sports medicine at seven clinics across Colorado, has disclosed a recent data breach impacting sensitive personal information. On August 6, 2024, unusual activity was detected in the company's email environment. In response, forensic cybersecurity experts were brought in to investigate, and the investigation confirmed unauthorized access and acquisition of certain files.
On July 24, 2025, Vail-Summit identified individuals potentially impacted by the breach. The compromised information varies by individual and includes addresses, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance numbers, medical treatment costs, diagnoses, medical history, prescriptions, test results, treatment dates, treatment locations and healthcare provider names.
A report provided to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation indicates that financial accounts may have also been affected by the Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery data breach.
