Tea Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Tea data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who may have been impacted.
Tea Security Incident: What Happened?
On July 25, 2025, dating safety app Tea detected unauthorized access to its systems and initiated an investigation in collaboration with external cybersecurity experts. A legacy data storage system was reportedly breached, leading to unauthorized access to a dataset containing approximately 72,000 images. This includes around 13,000 selfies and photo IDs from user verification processes, and 59,000 images from public posts, comments, and direct messages within the app. In a post on its website, Tea stated that no email addresses or phone numbers were compromised, and only users registered before February 2024 were affected.
News reports indicate that photos of Tea users' faces and IDs (including driver's licenses) were downloaded and posted online after users of the anonymous online message board 4chan claimed to have discovered the exposed database.
Tea says it is now working to determine the scope of the data breach and the information involved.
The Tea app, which claims to have over 1.7 million users, allows women to report on experiences they've had with men in the dating pool, supposedly with the goal of keeping other women safe.
