Health Care and Rehabilitation Services of Southeastern Vermont (HCRS) recently announced a data breach discovered in December 2024 when the organization detected suspicious activity in its email environment. The Vermont-based mental health and developmental services agency, which serves individuals and families across Windsor and Windham counties, experienced unauthorized access to two employee email accounts between December 4 and December 9, 2024. Following a forensic investigation completed in May 2025, HCRS confirmed that sensitive personal and health information belonging to clients and staff may have been compromised.
Information potentially exposed in the Health Care and Rehabilitation Services of Southeastern Vermont data breach varied by individual but may include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, dates of treatment or service, health insurance information, medical history, driver’s license numbers, patient numbers, medical record numbers, healthcare billing information, and other medical treatment information. The organization is providing breach notifications to affected individuals.
