American Clinical Solutions Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the American Clinical Solutions data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
American Clinical Solutions, a provider of drug testing services to healthcare providers, reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on July 24, 2024 that an estimated 300,000 individuals may have been impacted by a hacking/IT incident.
According to SuspectFile.com, ransomware group RansomHub indicated on its blog that an affiliate had infiltrated American Clinical Solutions' systems in mid-May and stolen over 700 GB of data, 35 GB of which pertained to medical records of patients who had undergone testing at the company's laboratories. The files stolen in the American Clinical Solutions data breach reportedly contained patient names, dates of birth, gender, patient IDs, doctors' names, the names of clinics that requested the tests, lab results, and in some cases, Social Security numbers, phone numbers and health insurance information.
Though American Clinical Solutions has not officially reported what information was affected in the data breach, companies covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are required to notify the HHS Secretary of breaches that involve protected health information.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force American Clinical Solutions to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
