Woodruff Sawyer Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Woodruff Sawyer data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
A data breach at insurance brokerage and consulting firm Woodruff-Sawyer & Co. occurred on January 20, 2024, when an executive was subject to a "SIM swapping" attack, leading to unauthorized access to some cloud systems. Woodruff Sawyer reported to the Maine attorney general's office that an unknown individual was able to convince an employee at a mobile carrier's retail store to transfer the executive's phone number to another device, which was then used to reset the executive's work password and gain access to the company's systems.
The Woodruff-Sawyer & Co. data breach reportedly exposed personal information, including full names, dates of birth, and driver's license numbers, obtained from the company's corporate clients in connection with providing insurance brokerage and risk consulting services. Woodruff Sawyer is notifying affected individuals of the breach.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Woodruff Sawyer to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
