Sotheby’s Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation

Sotheby’s Security Incident: What Happened?
International auction house Sotheby’s is notifying individuals impacted by a data security incident that may have involved personal information.
The company, a leading broker of art, jewelry and collectibles, learned on July 24, 2025 that an unknown third party had seemingly removed certain data from its network environment. Sotheby’s launched an investigation to identify what information was involved and to whom it related, and the data review was completed on or around September 24, 2025.
According to information reported to the Maine Attorney General’s office, the potentially exposed data varies by individual and may include names, Social Security numbers and financial account information.
Individuals impacted by the Sotheby’s data breach were sent notice on or about October 15, 2025.
