As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who believe their information may have been put at risk, including current and former Boston Scientific employees, affiliated providers and patients.
Boston Scientific Security Incident: What Happened?
Boston Scientific, a publicly traded medical device manufacturer and distributor, has reported a cybersecurity incident that caused significant operational and shipping disruptions around the world.
The company first disclosed the incident in a Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 26, 2026, describing an event that affected certain of its information technology systems the day prior. Upon detection, Boston Scientific activated response protocols and enlisted third-party cybersecurity experts, including CrowdStrike, to investigate the incident and its impact. No timeline for system restorations was provided.
On September 7, Boston Scientific filed an additional Form 8-K with the SEC that stated the incident involved unauthorized access to certain of the company's systems, resulting in a network outage that affected operating systems and business applications. The company also announced in the filing that there was no evidence of continued unauthorized access.
Though some systems had been restored and distribution centers began processing customer orders at standard levels, Boston Scientific anticipated that the incident would still have a material impact on its annual finances and net sales growth.
Throughout the still-ongoing investigation, Boston Scientific has been assessing whether personal data was compromised, with plans to notify affected parties if necessary.
As of the company's most recent update on September 9, all manufacturing, order fulfillment and shipping operations were fully restored.
