December 4, 2025 – Details Emerge About the Marquis Data Breach
Marquis Software Solutions has notified dozens of United States banks and credit unions that their customer data was exfiltrated in the Marquis data breach that occurred in August 2025.
According to TechCrunch, Marquis boasts on its website more than 700 banking and credit union customers nationwide. The publication reports that at least 400,000 people have so far been confirmed as impacted by the Marquis data breach, as disclosures of the incident were filed in Iowa, Maine, Texas, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Per TechCrunch, at least 354,000 people in Texas alone were impacted by the cyberattack.
Marquis informed the Maine Attorney General that banking customers with the Maine State Credit Union accounted for the bulk of the company’s data breach notifications in that state.
The number of people impacted by the Marquis data breach is expected to grow as data breach notices are disseminated to other states, TechCrunch states.
According to Marquis, cybercriminals stole customer names, dates of birth, addresses, financial details, tax ID numbers, payment card information and Social Security numbers in the incident, which Marquis linked to the exploitation of a zero-day vulnerability in its SonicWall firewall.

Marquis Security Incident: What Happened?
Marquis Software Solutions, a Texas-based company that provides marketing and compliance software to banks and credit unions, has reported that personal information may have been exposed in a recent data security incident.
After unusual network activity was detected on August 14, 2025, Marquis launched an investigation with the help of cybersecurity specialists. The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party had accessed its systems and may have copied certain files.
The Marquis data breach was limited to the company’s online environment and did not affect the internal systems of the financial institutions it serves, such as Norway Savings Bank and CoVantage Credit Union.
Marquis completed its review of the potentially compromised files on October 27, 2025. Individuals whose information was impacted by the Marquis data breach are being notified directly with more details about what types of data were involved.
