HEMIC Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the HEMIC data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who may have had their information exposed in the incident, including HEMIC policyholders.
HEMIC Security Incident: What Happened?
Hawaii Employers' Mutual Insurance Company (HEMIC) has confirmed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network. According to a letter sent to the Maine Attorney General's Office, HEMIC noticed suspicious activity on its computer network on or about February 3, 2026. A subsequent investigation revealed that files had been viewed and potentially copied by an unknown actor on February 2.
A review of the potentially impacted files revealed that names and Social Security numbers are among the information potentially compromised in the HEMIC data breach.
The threat actor SilentRansomGroup had reportedly claimed responsibility for the Hawaii Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company data breach, as discovered by dark web scraping site Ransomware.Live. According to Cyber Security News, the group was responsible for multiple data breaches targeting law firms in 2025.
HEMIC, which works with businesses of all sizes across an array of industries, covers nearly 7,000 businesses and 75,000 workers. In addition to workers’ compensation insurance, it offers commercial insurance products and temporary disability insurance.
HEMIC is providing written notice to potentially impacted individuals (see sample notification letter below).
What You Can Do After the HEMIC Data Breach
If your information was exposed in the HEMIC data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
