As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
In a recent data breach, VPS of MI., PLLC (Visiting Physicians Services) discovered unauthorized access to its server, which potentially compromised the personal and medical information of the home health care provider's clients. The breach was detected on June 4, 2024, when irregular activity was noticed, revealing that malware had been used to infiltrate the server, allowing an unauthorized actor to exfiltrate sensitive data.
The information potentially accessed includes personal identifiers such as names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. In addition, extensive medical information was possibly exposed, including medical histories, diagnoses, treatment details, disability information, prescription details and medical record numbers. Health insurance information may have also been compromised, including policy numbers, subscriber numbers and claims histories.
A report provided to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services indicates that 20,604 individuals were affected by the VPS of MI., PLLC data breach.
