Possible Ohio Marijuana Card Security Incident: What Happened?
In mid-August 2025, cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler reported that he had uncovered a potential data exposure involving Ohio Medical Alliance LLC, operating under the name Ohio Marijuana Card. Fowler reportedly identified two unencrypted, non-password-protected databases containing 957,434 records, including sensitive personal information such as driver's licenses, medical records, and Social Security numbers. According to the report, the exposed data appears to have originated from Ohio Medical Alliance, which specializes in helping individuals obtain physician-certified medical marijuana cards through telemedicine services and in-person clinics in Ohio, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Fowler noted that it is unclear whether the exposed databases were managed by Ohio Marijuana Card or a third party. The company reportedly did not respond after Fowler sent a responsible disclosure notice about the potential Ohio Marijuana Card data breach, but the databases were apparently made inaccessible by the next day.
