Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard Security Incident: What Happened?
Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard, a law firm serving California, recently reported that a data breach taking place last year impacted the personal information of 24,601 individuals.
The breach was discovered in August 2024 when unauthorized access by a third party was detected. The third party had briefly posted stolen data on the dark web, according to sample notice letters (seen below), prompting the law firm to launch an investigation with cybersecurity experts and notify law enforcement.
The investigation confirmed that the unauthorized party obtained information from the law firm's network, with a review finding that the Kronick data breach might have exposed individuals' names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, and medical and health insurance information.
Letters sent to those affected by the data breach state that Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard, which provides legal services in the areas of intellectual property, labor and employment, real estate and more, sometimes receives personal information from organizations and individuals as part of client engagement. It appears that the law firm also sent out earlier rounds of notice letters in January and March 2025.
