Kovack Financial Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Kovack Financial data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Kovack Financial has disclosed a significant security breach that potentially compromised the sensitive personal information of more than 43,000 individuals.
The Kovack Financial data breach was initially discovered around September 5, 2023, when the firm detected unauthorized access to its email accounts. A subsequent investigation was launched with the help of external cybersecurity experts. As the investigation continued, Kovack Financial learned on April 10, 2024 that a security issue at a third-party provider had also affected certain clients' data.
Further findings on June 10, 2024 confirmed that the unauthorized party had accessed and possibly acquired files containing personal information from the email accounts between August 15 and September 5, 2023. Additionally, data held by the third-party provider was compromised between March 15 and April 10, 2024.
The datasets at risk include sensitive information such as full names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical information, biometric data, payment card data, financial account numbers, and government-issued ID numbers. The affected information varied across individuals, and not all data elements were compromised for each individual, the company's online notice states.
Starting July 9, 2024, Kovack Financial, which helps financial representatives and advisors establish their businesses, began notifying those whose information may have been exposed in the data breach.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Kovack Financial to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
