Episource Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Episource data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Episource Security Incident: What Happened?
Episource, LLC, a company that provides medical coding and risk adjustment services for doctors, health plans, and other healthcare organizations, recently experienced a data breach. The company discovered unusual activity within its computer systems on February 6, 2025 and undertook measures to halt the unauthorized access. An investigation was launched with the help of a specialized team, and law enforcement was notified. The company's computer systems were shut down to safeguard sensitive information belonging to its customers' patients and members.
The investigation revealed that between January 27 and February 6, 2025, a cybercriminal accessed and copied some data from Episource's systems. Although the exposed data varied by individual, the Episource data breach may have compromised personal information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails, as well as health insurance details, medical information, and, in certain cases, Social Security numbers and birthdates.
On April 23, 2025, Episource began informing customers about the specific individuals and types of data that may have been compromised. The vendor is coordinating with its customers to provide notice on their behalf to affected individuals.
What You Can Do
If your information was exposed in the data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Episource to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
