Cetera Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Cetera data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who had their information exposed in the incident, including those who received notice of the Cetera data breach or otherwise believe they are affected.
Cetera Security Incident: What Happened?
Cetera Financial Group has disclosed a data breach originating from unauthorized access to an employee's email account.
According to a letter sent to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, from July 7, 2025, to August 21, 2025, an unauthorized party accessed the account, prompting a review to determine which data was impacted. On January 30, 2026, Cetera confirmed that certain names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and financial account details may have been compromised.
Cetera began notifying affected individuals on March 25, 2026 (sample notice pictured below).
Cetera Financial Group collaborates with 11,840 financial advisors and 450 institutions across the U.S. and manages $640 billion in assets under administration. Though there are dozens of Cetera Investors branches nationwide, many partner entities operate under names that don’t specify an affiliation with Cetera.
What You Can Do After the Cetera Data Breach
If your information was exposed in the Cetera data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
