BYU-Pathway Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the BYU-Pathway data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
BYU-Pathway Security Incident: What Happened?
BYU-Pathway Worldwide, a Utah nonprofit organization that offers online educational programs in partnership with BYU-Idaho and Ensign College, recently detected unauthorized network access potentially involving personal data of its students. The organization, which is associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, discovered the breach on June 24, 2025. An intruder reportedly compromised a vendor's account on June 17, 2025, gaining access to systems containing sensitive information of current and former students, including names, Social Security numbers, national ID numbers, account IDs, contact details, gender, marital status, religious affiliation, age, and records of educational courses.
BYU-Pathway has stated that it is unable to identify the unknown third party who accessed the affected systems but that investigators have not detected any further unauthorized activity since June 24, 2025.
Individuals affected by the BYU-Pathway Worldwide data breach are receiving notice of the incident.
