Ahold Delhaize Security Incident: What Happened?
Ahold Delhaize USA Services, LLC, a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, is notifying individuals about a data breach that may have exposed personal information found in employment records. The company collected this information while providing support services to Ahold Delhaize USA companies such as Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford, Stop & Shop, ADUSA Distribution, and ADUSA Transportation.
The cybersecurity issue was identified when unauthorized access to internal U.S. business systems was detected on November 6, 2024. Ahold Delhaize USA Services launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts, and it was found that an unauthorized party accessed files from an internal repository between November 5 and 6, 2024.
The investigation revealed that some files contained personal data from employment records, including information on workers' dependents and beneficiaries. Data potentially exposed includes names, contact details, dates of birth, government ID numbers, financial account information, Social Security numbers, health data (e.g., workers' compensation information), and employment-related details, varying by individual. According to a report to the Maine Attorney General's Office, 2,242,521 people are affected by the Ahold Delhaize USA Services data breach.
