A class action settlement will resolve litigation that alleged Shimano falsely advertised the functionality of its Hollowtech II bicycle cranksets, and that its September 2023 voluntary recall of the products was insufficient.

The court-approved website for the Shimano recall settlement can be found at ShimanoCranksetSettlement.com.
Shimano settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim and supporting documentation will be able to receive reimbursement for reasonable out-of-pocket costs incurred for the replacement of one of the above-mentioned Shimano cranksets if it needed to be replaced because it had separated, delaminated or displayed evidence of separation or delamination.
Per the settlement website, reimbursement is not available for crankset replacements that occurred on or after September 21, 2023, or for replacements that occurred within the express warranty period of the product, which was two years after purchase of covered Ultegra models and three years after purchase of covered Dura-Ace models.
To submit a Shimano claim form online, class members must visit this page of the Shimano settlement website.
Alternatively, a PDF claim form is available to print, fill out and mail back to the address listed on the first page of the form.
All class action settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by August 4, 2026.

Per the settlement site, the Shimano settlement also offers to all settlement class members extended warranties, which will extend the coverage of bonding separation and delamination from the products’ original express warranties until July 29, 2027. These will be applied automatically, and class members do not have to take any action to receive an extended warranty, the settlement website states.
Finally, Shimano will distribute appropriate information, instructions and tools to approved recall retailers to perform inspections for indications of breakage, separation or delamination of the relevant cranksets with the goal of maximizing class members’ participation in Shimano’s voluntary crankset recall, the settlement website adds.
A hearing is set for February 2, 2026 to determine whether the settlement will receive final court approval. Settlement benefits and compensation will begin to be distributed only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Shimano class action lawsuit claimed that several of the company’s bicycle crankset models were defective and prone to breaking or separating from the pedal system, and that Shimano’s voluntary recall was insufficient and ineffective.
