The 81-page lawsuit alleges that although the Nestlé subsidiary has touted Solgar Formula VM-75 multivitamins as designed to support “overall health and well-being,” the company has failed to warn consumers that the 75-milligram (mg) daily dose of vitamin B6 in the supplements can cause vitamin B6 toxicity and peripheral neuropathy, a potentially irreversible nerve condition that can result in a progressive inability to feel touch, pinpricks, temperature, vibrations, and the position of the extremities.
The suit explains that B6 is an essential vitamin found in a variety of foods and often included in over-the-counter vitamin and mineral supplements. Per the complaint, the National Institutes of Health set the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin B6 at 1.3 to 1.7 mg per day for most adults.
The filing contends that Nestlé Health Science, which acquired the Solgar brand in 2021, knew or should have known from decades of scientific literature and regulatory action that the 75-mg “megadose” of B6 in Solgar VM-75 multivitamins—roughly 44 times the RDA—poses a serious health risk to consumers, despite continuing to tout the supplements as a “premium multivitamin.”
The suit says that it has been “well established” in the scientific community since at least 1983 that long-term consumption of high-dose vitamin B6 causes peripheral neuropathy and symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning pain, weakness, and difficulties with balance.
While several studies about B6 toxicity involve daily doses that are higher than the 75 mg in the Solgar vitamins at issue, scientists generally agree that peripheral neuropathy can be caused by doses that are “far lower,” and that the risk of toxic injury can be predicted based on the accumulated amount consumed over months or years, the class action lawsuit relays.
Government regulators in the United Kingdom, the European Union, the Netherlands, and Norway have issued warnings and guidelines establishing tolerable upper limits of between 10 mg and 25 mg of vitamin B6 per day, the complaint says. The suit adds that Australia, as of March 2022, requires supplement manufacturers to include warning labels with a statement about health risks associated with high doses of vitamin B6.
“As a multinational seller of vitamin and supplement products in Australia and worldwide, Nestlé knew or should have known of this warning requirement and the peripheral-neuropathy risk it addressed,” the complaint argues.
Furthermore, the lawsuit contends that Nestlé can include a warning label about vitamin B6 on the supplements, particularly in light of the California Proposition 65 warning about lead exposure on product labels, but has instead chosen to conceal critical safety information from consumers.
One of the lawsuit’s two named plaintiffs consumed a daily dose of the Solgar Formula VM-75 multivitamins for approximately 40 years with the reasonable belief that they would support his health and overall wellness as advertised, per the lawsuit. However, in 2022, the plaintiff began to experience problems with his gait, balance, and coordination, resulting in two falls, the suit conveys.
The lawsuit says that in May 2025, the plaintiff was diagnosed with vitamin B6 toxicity, with the man’s blood serum vitamin B6 levels at 409 nanomoles per liter, more than eight times the normal amount. According to the suit, the plaintiff’s doctors attributed the onset of peripheral neuropathy to his consumption of high doses of vitamin B6.
The Nestlé class action lawsuit looks to cover all residents of the United States and its territories who purchased Solgar Formula VM-75.
