Lee University settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses stemming from the data breach.
Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.
In addition to a documented-loss payment, class members can file a claim form to receive a pro rata cash payment of approximately $100, with no proof required.
The final amount of each class member’s documented-loss and/or alternative cash payment may increase or decrease, depending on the total number of valid claims filed, among other factors.
Additionally, all class members can elect on their claim form to enroll in one year of one-bureau credit monitoring, which includes real-time alerts and medical identity theft insurance.
Class members can submit a claim for credit monitoring regardless of whether they accepted the complimentary credit monitoring services previously offered by Lee University.
To submit a Lee University settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the class member ID found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete, and return by mail to the settlement administrator listed on the website.
All Lee University claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked no later than August 19, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the Lee University settlement final approval following a hearing on September 3, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Lee University class action lawsuit alleged that the Cleveland, Tennessee-based private Christian university failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect the private information of students, donors, and current and former employees from a March 2024 data breach.
Per court documents, sensitive information that may have been compromised during the breach included full names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial information and medical information.
