A Western Montana Clinic settlement offers cash and medical data monitoring to individuals affected by a 2025 data breach.
Western Montana Clinic (WMC) has agreed to a settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged the healthcare provider failed to protect private information in its care from a 2025 data breach.

The Western Montana Clinic class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on May 18, 2026. The agreement covers all individuals whose personal health information was potentially impacted by the data breach experienced by WMC, including all who were sent notice of the incident.
Court documents state that roughly 9,506 people were mailed a notification about the Western Montana Clinic data breach.

Western Montana Clinic settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred due to the data breach.
Class members must submit proof, such as receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.
Further, class members can submit a claim form to receive compensation for up to three hours of lost time spent responding to the data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour.
Finally, all class members can file a claim form to enroll in one year of CyEx Medical Shield Pro, which includes medical data monitoring.
To submit a Western Montana Clinic settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the notice ID and confirmation code on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, fill out, and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Western Montana Clinic claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by September 15, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the WMC settlement final approval following a hearing on September 9, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Western Montana Clinic class action lawsuit alleged that the Missoula, Montana-based primary care provider failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect private health information from an email account-related data breach that occurred between March 11 and April 15, 2025.
Per court documents, private information that may have been compromised during the breach included contact information, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, treating physicians, internal ID numbers, dates of service, medication information, and treatment and/or diagnostic information.
