Neurosurgical & Spine Institute of Savannah Security Incident: What Happened?
On April 15, 2025, The Neurological Institute of Savannah & Center for Spine, P.C announced that it had recently experienced a data breach affecting personal information. Specifically, between June 1 and July 21, 2024, an unauthorized party gained access to certain electronic files on the neurosurgical practice's network, according to an online notice about the incident. Upon detection, The Neurosurgical & Spine Institute of Savannah took action to contain the breach and launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts to assess the situation.
On January 24, 2025, it was determined that the compromised files might include sensitive data such as patient names, birth dates, medical record numbers, details on diagnoses and conditions, lab results, MRI images, CPT codes, medication information, healthcare claims information, and subscriber numbers. A few individuals may also have had their Social Security numbers exposed.
A report submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services states that 32,548 individuals are affected by the Neurosurgical & Spine Institute of Savannah data breach.
