Self Regional Healthcare, NRS Data Incident: What Happened?
On July 17, 2025, Self Regional Healthcare began notifying individuals affected by a data breach at Nationwide Recovery Services, Inc. (NRS), a successor to a vendor once utilized by the South Carolina medical provider for debt collection services. NRS discovered suspicious activity on July 11, 2024 that led to a network outage and unauthorized access to its system between July 5 and July 11, 2024. Files were reportedly copied during this breach.
NRS's investigation revealed that some of the compromised information was collected between 2012 and 2013 when its predecessor worked with Self Regional Healthcare. In late May 2025, Self Regional Healthcare received a list of individuals whose information was potentially exposed in the NRS data breach. Impacted data could include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, diagnoses, service dates, provider names, medical information and insurance details.
Self Regional Healthcare, a comprehensive healthcare provider serving over a quarter million people in the Lakelands region of upstate South Carolina, no longer partners with NRS, according to an online notice about the data breach.
Approximately 27,084 South Carolina residents are affected by the Self Regional Healthcare data breach.
