Prosper Security Incident: What Happened?
On September 1, 2025, Prosper Marketplace, Inc. and Prosper Funding LLC detected a security breach where an unauthorized party accessed their systems containing sensitive information, according to a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The San Francisco-based fintech company, known for offering personal loans and online financial solutions, stated on its website that unauthorized queries were made on company databases that store customer and applicant details.
Although there is no evidence of customer accounts or funds being compromised, the Prosper data breach involved access to confidential, proprietary, and personal data, including Social Security numbers. As the investigation continues, the company is assessing the extent of the compromised information and will notify affected individuals accordingly.
According to some reports, the Prosper data breach may have impacted as many as 17.6 million people.
