Integrated Oncology Network Security Incident: What Happened?
Integrated Oncology Network (ION), a Nashville-based company that owns and provides administrative services to oncology physician practices, has reported a data breach resulting from an email phishing incident. On May 9, 2025, Integrated Oncology Network completed an investigation into the incident, which led to unauthorized access to a small number of email and SharePoint accounts containing patient data between December 13 and December 16, 2024.
The accessed data might include names alongside addresses, dates of birth, financial account details, diagnoses, lab results, medications, treatment information, health insurance and claims information, provider names and treatment dates. For a few individuals, Social Security numbers might be involved in the Integrated Oncology Network data breach.
Notifications were sent to affected oncology practices on June 13, 2025, and starting June 27, 2025, Integrated Oncology Network began mailing letters to potentially impacted patients.
Patients of California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence (cCARE), which was acquired by Integrated Oncology Network in April 2022, are believed to be affected as the practice's website links to ION's online data breach notice. Additionally, on June 27, 2025, California Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence - Fresno submitted a sample data breach notification letter (a copy of which can be seen below) to the California Attorney General's Office about the incident.
