According to an August 17, 2026 post on dark web monitoring site Ransomware.live, hacker group Dire Wolf was behind the alleged attack on ASU, which was estimated to have occurred the same day.
HookPhish, another cybersecurity blog, similarly reported that Dire Wolf claimed to be responsible for an attack on the educational institution.
At the time this post was made, no additional information was available about the scope or nature of the unconfirmed Arizona State University data breach.
