The Riley, Pope & Laney class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on April 19, 2026. The deal covers all United States residents whose personal information was compromised in the data breach experienced by RPL, including all who received notice of the breach.
The court-approved website for the Riley, Pope & Laney class action settlement can be found at RPLDataSettlement.com.
Riley, Pope & Laney settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between August 11, 2024 and August 17, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses stemming from fraud or identity theft and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing and unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage and more.
Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.
As part of this benefit, class members can also claim up to three hours of lost time spent responding to the data breach, at a rate of $30 per hour. This covers activities such as changing passwords, investigating suspicious activity, researching the data breach and more.
In lieu of a documented-loss and/or lost time payment, class members can instead file a claim form to receive an estimated $60 alternative cash payment, with no proof required.
Finally, all class members can submit a claim form to receive two years of one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft insurance, which includes dark web scanning and public records monitoring.
To submit a Riley, Pope & Laney claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All RPL settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by August 17, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the RPL settlement final approval following a hearing on September 3, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Riley, Pope & Laney class action lawsuit alleged that the South Carolina-based law firm failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information in its care from an August 2024 data breach.
Court documents state that private information that may have been compromised during the breach included names and Social Security numbers.
