First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana Settlement Ends Class Action Lawsuit Over 2025 Data Breach

First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana (FBC) has agreed to a settlement to conclude a class action lawsuit that alleged the church failed to protect private information in its care from a July 2025 data breach.

The First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on June 17, 2026. The deal covers all individuals whose personally identifiable information was accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized party due to the FBC data breach.

Court documents state that the First Baptist Church data breach settlement covers approximately 4,251 people.

Settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $450 for documented “ordinary” out-of-pocket losses incurred between July 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, credit repair services, bank fees, postage, travel costs, notary fees, and more.

Additionally, class members can submit a claim form to receive up to $4,500 for documented “extraordinary” losses incurred between July 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026 because of the cyber incident. This benefit covers losses from identity theft or fraud that are not already covered by another settlement benefit.

Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive an “ordinary” or “extraordinary” documented-loss payment.

Class members can also file a claim for up to four hours of lost time spent responding to the FBC data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour. This benefit covers activities such as changing passwords, investigating suspicious account activity, and researching the data breach.

In lieu of any documented-loss and/or lost-time payment, class members can submit a claim for a $50 cash payment, with no proof required.

To submit an FBC settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete, and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All class action settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by September 30, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana class action settlement following a hearing on November 30, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana class action lawsuit alleged that the megachurch failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect private information from a targeted cyberattack in July 2025.

Court documents state that confidential information that may have been compromised in the breach included names and Social Security numbers.
