Community Realty Management Settlement Ends Lawsuit Over 2024 Data Breach

Community Realty Management (CRM) has agreed to a settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged the property management company failed to protect private information from a September 2024 data breach.

The Community Realty Management class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on June 26, 2026. All individuals identified by CRM as among those potentially impacted by the data breach, including all who were sent notice of the breach, are eligible to participate in the settlement.

Settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between September 10, 2024 and September 25, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from identity theft or fraud and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing or unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage, and more. 

Class members must submit proof, such as receipts or bank statements, to receive a documented-loss payment.

In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can submit a claim form to receive an estimated $20 cash payment, with no proof required.

Should the total amount of payments to class members exceed the settlement cap, payouts will be decreased on a pro rata basis.

Additionally, all class members are eligible to enroll in two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft insurance. Enrollment codes for the service have been sent to class members via postcard.

To submit a Community Realty Management settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete, and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All CRM settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by September 25, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Community Realty Management settlement following a hearing on October 26, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The Community Realty Management class action lawsuit alleged that the Pleasantville, New Jersey-based property management company failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect private information from a data breach that occurred between September 10 and October 22, 2024.

Per court documents, private information that may have been compromised in the breach included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state ID numbers, financial account information, payment card information, medical information, and health insurance information.
