California Casualty Group Class Action Settlement Resolves Lawsuit Over 2025 Cyberattack

California Casualty Indemnity Exchange, doing business as California Casualty Group, has agreed to a settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged the insurance company failed to safeguard sensitive information from a targeted cyberattack in September 2025.

The California Casualty Group class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on July 16, 2026. Eligible to participate in the settlement are all living United States residents whose personal information was impacted by the data breach discovered by California Casualty in September 2025, including all who received notice of the cyber incident.

California Casualty settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $4,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between September 2, 2025 and November 16, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from identity theft and fraud and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage, and more.

Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.

In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can file a claim form to receive a $50 cash payment, with no proof required.

In addition, all class members can elect on their claim form to receive two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes one-bureau credit monitoring and financial fraud insurance.

To submit a California Casualty settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All California Casualty Group settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by November 16, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the California Casualty settlement following a hearing on December 4, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The California Casualty Group class action lawsuit alleged that the insurance company, which provides home, automotive and specialty insurance coverage, failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect private information from a targeted cyberattack on September 2, 2025.

Court documents state that personal information that may have been compromised during the data breach included names, medical information, taxpayer ID numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, health insurance information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, passport numbers and financial account/payment card numbers.
