$850K Thinkware Dashcam Settlement Ends Class Action Lawsuit Over ‘Super Night Vision’ Claims

Thinkware Systems USA, Inc. has agreed to an $850,000 class action settlement to wrap up a lawsuit that alleged the vehicle device maker falsely advertised that certain dashcam models came equipped with “Super Night Vision,” even though the feature, unbeknownst to buyers, was only available in parking mode.

The Thinkware dashcam class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on August 12, 2026. Eligible for the settlement are all individuals in the United States who bought one or more Thinkware X700, F200PRO, DC-M2-FG-IR, DC-M2-FG or F70PRO dashcams between January 25, 2019 and August 31, 2024. 

Court documents state that roughly 62,029 eligible Thinkware dashcams were sold during the relevant time period. 

The court-approved Thinkware dashcam settlement website can be found at TWCameraSettlement.com. 

Settlement class members who submit a valid, timely claim form can receive a pro rata (proportional) cash payout. The final amount of each class member’s cash payout will depend on the total number of valid claims filed, among other factors. 

To file a Thinkware dashcam claim form online, class members can head to this page and select whether they have a settlement claim ID, which can be found on the settlement notice. 

Class members who do not have a settlement claim ID can still file a claim online by selecting the appropriate option to proceed. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator. 

Class members who do not have a settlement claim ID or who want to make a claim for more than one eligible dashcam must submit proof of purchase with their claim form. 

Thinkware settlement claim forms must be filed online or by mail by December 14, 2026. 

The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the dashcam class action settlement following a hearing on January 12, 2027. Settlement money will begin to be distributed after the deal receives final approval and any appeals are resolved. 

The lawsuit against Thinkware Systems USA alleged that the company, which manufactures high-definition dashboard cameras, misrepresented that its X700, F200PRO, DC-M2-FG-IR, DC-M2-FG and F70PRO models featured a “Super Night Vision” function. In reality, the suit said, the “Super Night Vision” feature was only available in parking mode, which consumers were unable to learn from the defendant’s advertisements or product packaging. 

“Such a feature is of particular value to consumers because dashcams are widely used to deter and investigate theft, and may also provide important evidence of accidents for insurance claims,” the lawsuit explained.
