The Highline School District class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on December 19, 2025 and covers approximately 94,102 individuals residing in the United States who received a notice from the district that their private information may have been implicated in the September 2024 data breach.
The court-approved website for the Highline School District data breach settlement can be found at HSDDataIncident.com/.
According to the website, Highline settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form and provide documented proof of out-of-pocket losses are able to receive a one-time cash payment of up to $5,000. Per the agreement, these losses must have been incurred between the time of the breach and submission of the claim form. Covered losses include those related to fraud or identity theft, credit monitoring, bank fees, or other miscellaneous expenses, such as mileage or postage, that have not previously been reimbursed by a third party.
In the event that attorneys’ fees, settlement administration costs, lead plaintiff service awards, and compensation for class members exceed $650,000, the settlement agreement explains that payments to class members may be subject to a prorated decrease.
Highline settlement class members may elect to receive their payouts via check or electronic payment. The agreement states that all checks must be cashed within 90 days of issuance before they expire.
To submit a Highline School District claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique CPT ID and Passcode as provided on their received copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members may download a PDF of the claim form from the settlement website to print, fill out and return by mail to the address of the settlement administrator listed near the top of the document.
All Highline School District claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by April 20, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Highline School District settlement at a hearing on April 24, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The Highline School District class action lawsuit alleged that the district failed to implement reasonable data security measures to protect the private information stored on its systems, leading to a targeted cyberattack on or around September 7, 2024. Per court documents, data associated with current and former students and employees of Highline that may have been compromised during the breach included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, employment information, digital signatures, medical information, health insurance information, student records/demographic information and grades.
