The Akeela class action settlement received preliminary court approval on December 18, 2025 and covers all United States residents whose personal information was compromised in a data breach discovered by the healthcare provider on or around June 22, 2023.
The court-approved website for the Akeela data breach settlement can be found at AkeelaSettlement.com.
Court documents explain that Akeela settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form are eligible to receive a one-time, pro-rated cash payment from the settlement fund. The final amount of this payment, the agreement adds, will be determined based on the total number of valid claims filed.
Class members may choose to receive their payouts via check or electronic payment upon filing a claim form, and the agreement notes that all checks must be cashed within 120 days of issuance before expiration.
In addition to a cash payment, the site reports that all class members are eligible to receive two free years of one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection. According to the settlement agreement, class members can find an enrollment code for this benefit on the short-form settlement notice they were sent, and the settlement administrator will provide further instructions on how to activate it.
To submit an Akeela claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique ID and PIN as found on their received copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form from the settlement site to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Akeela settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked no later than May 25, 2026.
Finally, Akeela has also agreed to implement business practice changes to further secure its systems and protect the private information it stores.
The agreement also reports that all settlement administration costs, lead plaintiff service awards and attorneys’ fees will be paid out by Akeela separate from the settlement fund.
The court will determine whether to grant the Akeela settlement final approval following a hearing on April 13, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Akeela class action lawsuit claimed that the Alaska-based addiction treatment and behavioral health provider did not implement adequate safeguards to protect the confidential patient information in its care from a data breach discovered on or around June 22, 2023. According to the lawsuit, private information that may have been compromised in the breach included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical diagnoses and treatment information.
