The Group Solar class action settlement received preliminary court approval on September 24, 2025. The deal covers anyone who, with regard to a residential property in New York, accepted a solar panel installation and financing proposal provided by Group Solar referencing delivery of welcome checks; entered into a retail installment contract with the company that was assigned to Salal Credit Union; and, as of December 15, 2022, has received welcome checks in an amount less than the total sum of 12 months of payments owed to Salal pursuant to their respective contract.
The court-approved website for the Group Solar settlement can be found at SolarWelcomeCheckLitigation.com.
The website says that, should the deal receive final approval from the court, Group Solar settlement class members will automatically receive a pro-rated share of the $415,000 settlement fund, after deductions are made for payment of legal and administrative fees and lead plaintiff awards.
Eligible class members do not need to do anything to receive a Group Solar settlement check.
According to the settlement agreement, individual payouts will be calculated based on the amount of each class member’s unfulfilled welcome checks. No consumer will receive less than $100, the document adds.
Class members can find out how much their individual settlement payment may be by visiting the website’s estimated award page and entering their unique notice ID and PIN, which can be found in the personalized settlement notice issued about the deal.
“It is estimated that class members will be entitled to 241% or more of the amount of any unpaid Welcome Check,” the settlement website shares.
A hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2026 to determine whether the settlement will receive final court approval. Court documents relay that, should the deal be ultimately approved, Group Solar settlement payments will be issued to eligible class members within 10 days following the date the deal goes into effect.
Payments will be distributed by check to the address at which consumers received notice of the settlement. Class members can update their mailing address by visiting this page of the settlement website and logging in with their notice ID and PIN.
The Group Solar class action lawsuit claimed Salal Credit Union, which purchased certain solar panel finance agreements from Group Solar, was liable for the company’s alleged failure to deliver on its promises with respect to welcome checks.
