The 37-page defective product lawsuit asserts that defendant American Honda Motor Company falsely represented that its 2024-2026 Prologue vehicles were fit for normal use. The suit explains that a vehicle’s drive axle assemblies are critical drivetrain components responsible for transmitting power to the wheels during turning maneuvers.
Per the complaint, the Honda Prologue front drive axle defect, stemming from an “internal joint irregularity,” can significantly impair propulsion, steering response, and drivability, particularly when a vehicle is operated at low speeds, and can be audibly heard by drivers due to an abnormal clicking, clinking or ratcheting sound produced while turning.
According to the complaint, Honda was aware of the axle defect from both pre-production testing and consumer complaint records, but continued to represent the Prologue vehicles (the “class vehicles”) as a “safe, reliable, and high-quality vehicle” and “concealed” the defect from consumers.
The filing says that although consumers have complained “en masse” to the automaker about the apparent front drive axle defect, citing safety concerns, the company has failed to provide a solution. Instead, when a consumer presents an impacted Prologue vehicle to a Honda dealership over concerns about the front drive axle, the dealership will replace the part with the exact defective model causing the issues, the suit claims.
Per the suit, the unusual clicking, clinking or ratcheting noises the defect might cause indicate degeneration of the axle and can be distracting and unnerving for drivers trying to focus on the road, posing an “unreasonable safety hazard.”
The Honda lawsuit cites numerous consumer complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that seemingly indicate the scope and pervasiveness of the front drive axle defect:
“I have observed some level of clicking sound during turns since I purchased the vehicle in May 2025, but with each passing month, the volume and frequency of the clicking has [sic] increased…steering feels insecure and sounds indicate possible hazard/parts failure during vehicle operation…I fear the parts/joints will fail while the vehicle is in operation.”
“A defective axle can break at high speeds, which puts my entire family at risk, including my baby. This issue compromises vehicle stability and could easily lead to a serious accident.”
“Honda seems to be aware of this issue, but is using the same parts to replace the bad joints every time. So it seems the problem is destined to repeat itself over and over. I am wondering when this will become a safety issue.”
“Dealer warned this is happening with lots of Prologues and might recur. Now approaching 7000 miles and the problem is occurring again, requiring further service. It doesn't appear that the replacement/fix is actually better, so the problem just keeps happening.”
Other consumer complaints lodged with the NHTSA say that replacement parts are also “prone to failure,” with one consumer noting that had they been aware of the front drive axle defect, “[w]e would have made a wiser decision on purchase selection.”
Honda, the lawsuit charges, is “fully aware” of the axle defect yet has failed to notify owners and lessees of 2024-2026 Prologue vehicles of the problem directly or through its dealerships, or by issuing a recall. Additionally, the case contends that Honda is unable to offer consumers a “suitable” repair or replacement part for the defective front drive axles.
The Honda axle class action lawsuit seeks to cover all individuals or entities in the United States who are current or former owners and/or lessees of a 2024-2026 Honda Prologue vehicle.
