$2.5M Avanquest Software Settlement Ends Class Action Lawsuit Over Alleged Automatic Renewal Scheme

UC Distribution LLC, 7270356 Canada Inc. (Avanquest Canada) and Avanquest Software SAS have agreed to a $2,500,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged the software companies enrolled Californians in automatically renewing or continuous service subscriptions for Avanquest computer software without first offering clear renewal terms and obtaining their informed consent.

The Avanquest software class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on January 30, 2026 and covers all California residents who were enrolled in an continuous or automatically renewing subscription for Avanquest software products made by Avanquest Software SAS, UC Distribution, or Avanquest Canada on or after December 1, 2010 and were charged for the subscription between November 16, 2019 and August 31, 2025 and did not receive a full refund.
Per court documents, the term “Avanquest Software” refers to any of the following software products:
- ExpertPDF;
- inPixio;
- PC HelpSoft Driver Updater;
- PC HelpSoft PC Cleaner;
- PC HelpSoft Mac Cleaner;
- Driver Updater;
- Adaware Privacy;
- Adaware Adblock;
- Adaware PC Cleaner;
- Adaware Driver Manager;
- OneSafe PC Cleaner;
- OneSafe Mac Cleaner;
- OneSafe Driver Manager;
- PDF Architect;
- PDFCreator;
- PDFSuite; and
- SodaPDF.

According to the website, Avanquest settlement class members are automatically eligible to a one-time cash payment, which will be a pro rata (equal share) amount of whatever remains in the net settlement fund after the payment of attorneys' fees, settlement administration costs, lead plaintiff service awards and any litigation expenses.
In order to receive a one-time cash payment, class members must select their preferred payment method by heading to this page and entering the WebID found on their received copy of the settlement notice.
The agreement states that after submitting their information, class members may select to receive their payout by check or electronic payment and all checks must be cashed within 60 days of issuance before expiration.
As part of the settlement, UC Distribution, Avanquest Canada, and Avanquest Software SAS have also agreed to amend their subscription offer materials and disclosure terms to better comply with automatic renewal laws.
Class members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the settlement must send a written notice to the settlement administrator stating their name, mailing address, contact information, and a statement explaining their decision, along with other information as explained in the settlement notice.
All exclusion requests and objections to the settlement must be submitted by April 20, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Avanquest settlement following a hearing on May 29, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Avanquest class action lawsuit alleged that UC Distribution, Avanquest Canada and Avanquest Software SAS unlawfully enrolled Californians into automatically renewing or continuous service subscriptions for Avanquest computer software products in violation of the California Automatic Renewal Law and California Unfair Competition Law.
