Generac Power Systems has agreed to a $15,000,000 class action settlement to resolve multidistrict litigation (MDL) that alleged certain components of Generac PWRcell solar power systems, known as SnapRS devices, can overheat, melt, or fail, causing performance issues and system shutdowns.

The $15 million Generac Power Systems settlement received preliminary approval from the court on January 13, 2026. The deal covers all individuals and entities residing in the United States who are the current owner and/or primary user of a Generac PWRcell solar system purchased in the U.S. before January 9, 2026.
“Current owner” is defined as any individual or entity that holds contractual ownership rights to a PWRcell system. “Primary user” is defined as any homeowner or other occupant who is financially responsible for electric service on a property where a PWRcell system is installed, court documents state.
The settlement agreement states that a primary user may, but does not have to be, the current owner, and vice versa.
The court-approved website for the Generac Power Systems MDL settlement can be found at GeneracSnapSettlement.com.
The website states that class members who received a postcard notice about the Generac settlement that included a claim ID are pre-qualified to participate in the deal, meaning their ownership of a PWRcell solar power system has already been verified. These class members do not need to provide additional proof of ownership or system use under the “Easy Pay Option” to receive payment from the settlement.
Class members who are not pre-qualified and who file a timely, valid claim form can receive a single pro rata cash payment from the settlement.
The amount of each class member’s payment will be determined by the number of SnapRS devices in their PWRcell solar system. Non-pre-qualified class members must submit with their claim form documentation supporting their status as the owner or primary user of an eligible PWRcell system to receive this benefit.
Additionally, class members who incurred out-of-pocket expenses for SnapRS device repairs or removal can submit a claim for reimbursement of some or all of those expenses. Class members must provide documentation, such as receipts or estimates pre-dating the settlement, showing the amount paid (or to be paid) and demonstrating actual or anticipated removal of the PWRcell system.
Furthermore, class members who submit a claim form for a loss of energy generation of 25 percent or more associated with a SnapRS-related problem for two or more months can receive reimbursement for their loss.
Class members must submit either a written attestation of their loss or provide documentation, such as a screenshot of the PWRcell app, showing the actual amount of power generation. Class members who provide a written attestation can receive a $150 cash payment, while those who provide documentation of actual power reduction are eligible for reimbursement of all damages.
The maximum amount a class member may claim for all system claims, out-of-pocket expenses, loss of power generation claims, and miscellaneous costs is $20,000, per the settlement agreement.
Finally, as part of the class action settlement, Generac has agreed to implement a 25-year limited warranty for PWRcell solar systems that include SnapRS 801 or 801A components.
To submit a Generac settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the settlement claim ID found on their copy of the settlement notice. Class members who did not receive a settlement claim ID may select that option to complete their claim form.
Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
If both a current owner and a primary user exist for the same PWRcell system, either can submit a claim form to receive one payment per system. If both an owner and a primary user submit a claim, the payment will be split equally between them.
All Generac Power Systems settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked no later than August 24, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the Generac settlement final approval following a hearing on October 21, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Generac Power Systems multidistrict litigation alleged that the SnapRS 801 and 801A devices in Generac PWRcell solar systems were defective and dangerous, as the components had a propensity to malfunction and, as a result, overheat, melt, or explode during normal use.
