Port of Seattle Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Port of Seattle data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
In August 2024, the Port of Seattle, which oversees the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the city's seaport, experienced a cyberattack that led to the unauthorized access and downloading of personal information from its systems. The breach, which was identified on August 24, 2024, primarily involved legacy systems containing parking data and information about current and former employees and contractors. According to an online data breach notice, the Port of Seattle stores "very little information about airport or maritime passengers."
The information compromised in the Port of Seattle data breach included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers (or the last four digits of Social Security numbers), driver’s license or government ID numbers, and medical information.
In a September 13, 2024 update, the Port of Seattle warned that ransomware gang Rhysida was responsible for the attack and may post stolen information on the dark web in response to the Port's refusal to pay the group's ransom demand.
The Port is in the process of notifying those affected, with letters being sent to roughly 90,000 impacted individuals starting April 3, 2025.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force Port of Seattle to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
