Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Averhealth data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who had their information exposed in the incident, including those who received notice of the Averhealth data breach or otherwise believe they are affected.
Averhealth Security Incident: What Happened?
Averhealth, a nationwide substance use disorder recovery and laboratory testing company, has reported a data breach involving sensitive information.
According to an online notice, Avertest Inc., of which Averhealth Holdings is the parent company, detected unusual activity in its email environment on January 20, 2026. An investigation with external cybersecurity professionals revealed that between December 19, 2025 and January 21, 2026 an unauthorized party gained access to its network.
On May 6, 2026, Averhealth discovered that the sensitive information potentially affected by the breach included names, clinical information, diagnoses, digital/electronic signatures, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, health insurance policy-related numbers, medical costs, medical dates of service, medical history, medical provider names, medical record numbers, medical treatment/procedure information, mental or physical conditions, patient account numbers and Social Security numbers. Not all the listed information was impacted for all individuals.
Averhealth began sending notices to affected individuals on July 2, 2026, a sample of which is shown below.
Although it is currently unknown how many individuals were affected by the Averhealth data breach in total, 34 Massachusetts residents were impacted.
