Vector Security Settlement Wraps Up Lawsuit Over December 2024 Data Breach

Vector Security has agreed to a settlement to wrap up a class action lawsuit that alleged the electronic security company failed to protect private information in its care from a December 2024 data breach.

The Vector Security class action settlement received preliminary court approval on June 4, 2026. The deal covers all individuals in the United States who were notified by Vector that their private information was potentially compromised as a result of the data breach.

Vector Security settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between December 2024 and September 15, 2026 because of the data breach. This benefit covers losses from identity theft or fraud and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring services, freezing or unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage, and more.

Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.

Additionally, class members can submit a claim for reimbursement of up to three hours of lost time spent responding to the data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour. This benefit covers activities such as changing passwords, investigating suspicious account activity, and researching the Vector data breach.

Payments for lost time count toward the $2,000 cap for documented-loss payments.

In lieu of documented-loss and loss-time payments, class members can file a claim form to receive an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment, with no proof required.

Finally, all class members can elect on their claim form to enroll in one year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes monitoring for unauthorized financial transactions and financial fraud insurance.

To submit a Vector Security settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete, and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All Vector Security claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by September 15, 2026.

The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the Vector Security settlement following a hearing on October 6, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The Vector Security class action lawsuit alleged that the Pittsburgh-based security company, which provides and monitors security systems for homes and businesses, failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect private information in its possession from a December 2024 data breach.

According to court documents, private information that may have been compromised in the incident included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state-issued ID numbers, credit or debit card information with security and access codes, tax identification numbers, medical information and health insurance information.
