Up to $925K Mortgage Investors Group Settlement Ends Litigation Over 2024 Data Breach

Mortgage Investors Group (MIG) has agreed to a class action settlement worth up to $925,000 to end litigation that alleged the residential mortgage provider failed to protect confidential information from a December 2024 data breach.

The Mortgage Investors Group class action settlement received preliminary court approval on July 8, 2026. Eligible to participate in the settlement are all individuals whose personally identifiable information was implicated in the data incident involving Mortgage Investors Group, Inc.

Court documents estimate that 74,252 people are included in the settlement class.

Settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between December 12, 2024 and November 19, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from identity theft or fraud and costs from credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage, and more.

Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.

In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can file a claim form to receive a $45 cash payment, with no proof required.

Payments to class members may be reduced on a pro rata basis, depending on the total number of valid claims filed, among other factors.

Finally, all class members can elect on their claim form to receive one year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes credit monitoring, monitoring for unauthorized or high-risk transactions, and financial fraud insurance.

To submit an MIG settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All MIG settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by November 19, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the MIG settlement following a hearing on November 10, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The Mortgage Investors Group class action lawsuit alleged that the Knoxville, Tennessee-based residential mortgage provider failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to safeguard personal information from a data breach in December 2024.

Court documents state that personal information that may have been compromised in the breach included names and financial information.
