A new class action settlement wraps up a lawsuit that alleged the Mazda Connect infotainment system in certain vehicle models is plagued by glitches that could cause it to freeze, become unresponsive, or get stuck rebooting, among other driver-distracting malfunctions.

The Mazda infotainment settlement, which received preliminary approval from the court on February 17, 2025, covers all individuals and entities who purchased or leased any of the following Mazda vehicle models in the United States or its territories:
- Mazda2 model years 2016–2022;
- Mazda3 model years 2014–2018;
- Mazda6 model years 2016–2021;
- Mazda CX-3 model years 2016–2021;
- Mazda CX-5 model years 2016–2020;
- Mazda CX-9 model years 2016–2020; and
- Mazda MX-5 model years 2016–2023.

Under the Mazda class action settlement, all current owners or lessees will automatically receive a limited warranty extension for potential software updates or necessary connectivity master unit repairs or replacements for 24 months from the expiration of their new vehicle limited warranty. For covered models for which the new vehicle limited warranty has expired, the limited warranty extension offered through the settlement will run from February 17, 2025, the settlement site states. Class members do not need to submit a claim form in order to receive the extended warranty settlement benefit.
The deal also offers eligible consumers reimbursement for any Mazda Connect software updates and any repair and/or replacement expenses incurred for the connectivity master unit, an SD card, the infotainment system display and the rear-view camera. Claims for reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses must be submitted with supporting documentation, such as a repair invoice.
Class members who had qualifying repairs performed at an authorized Mazda dealer will be eligible for full reimbursement, while those who paid out of pocket for said repairs at any other facility may be reimbursed up to $1,750 per vehicle.
According to the website, the Mazda Connect class action settlement does not cover repair or replacement of the rear-view camera for 2014-2018 Mazda3 hatchbacks and 2016-2021 Mazda CX-3 vehicles covered by the automaker’s July 2023 voluntary recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration given those expenses are already covered by the recall.
A final approval hearing for the Mazda Connect settlement is slated for July 28, 2025. It is typically after a class action settlement receives final approval from the court, and any appeals are resolved, that benefits and/or compensation begin to be distributed to class members.
The initial class action lawsuit over the Mazda Connect infotainment system alleged that a variety of technical glitches could cause the touchscreen system to continuously reboot, freeze, become unresponsive, produce audio or video errors, or otherwise malfunction. The problem could cause a driver to lose GPS, Bluetooth and backup camera functionality and posed a dangerous distraction, the suit alleged.
