Inotiv Data Breach Settlement Wraps Up Class Action Lawsuit Over 2025 Cyberattack

Inotiv Inc. has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve a lawsuit that alleged the contract research firm failed to adequately protect sensitive information in its care from an August 2025 cyberattack.

The Inotiv class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on August 3, 2026. Eligible for the settlement are all individuals in the United States who were sent a notice by Inotiv informing them that their private information was compromised in the data breach. 

The court-approved Inotiv data breach settlement website can be found at InotivDataBreachSettlement.com. 

Settlement class members who file a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $500 for documented “ordinary” out-of-pocket expenses incurred between August 5, 2025 and September 10, 2026 due to the Inotiv data breach. This benefit covers costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacing IDs and more. 

Class members can also file a claim to receive up to $4,000 for documented “extraordinary” losses incurred during the same time period due to the cyberattack. This benefit covers losses from fraud or identity theft that are not already covered by other settlement benefits. 

Class members must submit proof, such as receipts, to receive a settlement payout for documented “ordinary” or “extraordinary” losses. 

In addition, class members can file an Inotiv claim form for reimbursement of up to four hours spent responding to the data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour. This benefit covers activities such as changing passwords, investigating suspicious account activity and researching the incident. 

In lieu of any other monetary benefits, class members can file a claim form for a $45 cash payment, with no proof required. 

Lastly, all Inotiv class members can elect on their claim form to receive two years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete, which includes medical identity theft insurance and medical data monitoring. 

To submit an Inotiv claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

Inotiv settlement claim forms must be filed online or by mail by December 2, 2026. 

The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the Inotiv data breach settlement following a hearing on December 3, 2026. Settlement benefits will be made available after the deal receives final approval and any appeals are resolved. 

The class action suit against Inotiv alleged that the company, a contract research organization within the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries, failed to adequately protect private information on its systems from unauthorized access amid an August 2025 cyberattack. 

Per the lawsuit, data compromised in the incident included Social Security numbers, dates of birth and financial details.
