A $976,276 settlement will end a class action lawsuit that alleged J.B. Hunt Transport violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by scanning employees’ facial geometries without first providing proper notice or obtaining written consent.

The J.B. Hunt class action settlement received preliminary court approval on August 7, 2025 and covers approximately 4,102 current and former J.B. Hunt employees who, between November 8, 2018 and May 4, 2025, used Lytx inward-facing camera technology as part of their employment with J.B. Hunt and had a recorded occurrence in Illinois.

J.B. Hunt settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form will be able to receive an equal share payment from the remainder of the $976,276 settlement fund after the payment of legal expenses and lead plaintiff awards. The court estimates this payment will be approximately $135 per claimant.
To submit a J.B. Hunt claim form online, class members can visit this page of the settlement website and log in with the unique notice ID and PIN found in their copy of the settlement notice.

All class action settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by December 8, 2025.
A hearing is scheduled for January 7, 2026 to determine whether the J.B. Hunt class action settlement will receive final approval from the court. Settlement payouts will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The J.B. Hunt class action lawsuit claimed that the company violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act by using inward-facing Lytx cameras to scan and record the faces of drivers without first providing certain statutory, written disclosures or obtaining written consent from the employees.
