The $7.5 million Thompson Coburn class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on April 7, 2026. The deal covers all individuals in the United States who were sent notice of the May 2024 data breach.
Court documents state that approximately 377,211 individuals were affected by the breach, the majority of whom were current and former patients of one of Thompson Coburn’s clients, Presbyterian Health Services.
The court-approved website for the Thompson Coburn data breach settlement can be found at TCDataSettlement.com.
Thompson Coburn settlement class members who file a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between May 28, 2024, and July 23, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses related to identity theft or fraud, as well as expenses for credit monitoring, replacement IDs, postage, notary fees and more.
Class members must submit proof, such as receipts or bank statements, to receive a documented-loss payment.
In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can instead file a claim form to receive a pro rata cash payment of approximately $150. No proof is required to claim this benefit.
Both cash payments may be reduced pro rata depending on the number of valid claims filed, per the settlement site.
Finally, in addition to either monetary benefit, all class members are automatically eligible to receive three years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete, which includes three-bureau credit monitoring and medical identity theft insurance.
Court documents state that class members do not need to file a claim to receive this benefit and that they can use the enrollment code in their class action notices to activate the service after the settlement has received final approval.
To file a Thompson Coburn settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF of the claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Thompson Coburn settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by July 23, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Thompson Coburn data breach settlement following a hearing on August 22, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The Thompson Coburn LLP class action lawsuit alleged that the St. Louis, Missouri-based law firm failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect the sensitive information of its clients and their patrons, resulting in a data breach on or around May 28, 2024.
According to court documents, private information that may have been exposed in the breach included names, dates of birth, protected health information, health insurance information, prescription and treatment history, clinical information, medical provider information, passport numbers, driver’s license information and Social Security numbers.
