Trader Joe’s has agreed to a $7,400,000 settlement to end a class action lawsuit that alleged the grocery store chain unlawfully issued receipts that displayed too many digits of shoppers’ credit or debit card numbers.

The $7.4 million Trader Joe’s class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on February 5, 2026. The deal covers all accountholders whose credit or debit card was used for a transaction at a Trader Joe’s store between March 5, 2019 and July 19, 2019 and whose receipt displayed the first six and last four digits of the card number.
Court documents say that hundreds of thousands of consumers are covered by the Trader Joe’s settlement.
The court-approved website for the Trader Joe’s receipt settlement can be found at TJ-FACTASettlement.com.
According to the website, Trader Joe’s settlement class members who file a valid, timely claim form can receive approximately $102.45.
The settlement agreement states that the amount of each class member’s payout may increase or decrease depending on the total number of valid claims filed, among other factors.
Should enough money remain in the settlement fund after the first distribution of payouts, class members may receive a second payment of at least $10, court documents state. Any remaining funds, regardless of whether a second distribution occurs, will be donated as a cy pres award.
To file a Trader Joe’s settlement claim form, class members can head to this page. Class members who have a claim ID and PIN, as found on their copy of the settlement notice, can submit a Trader Joe’s claim form online or by mail by downloading a claim form to print, fill out and return to the settlement administrator.
Class members who do not have a claim ID and PIN must download a personalized claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Trader Joe’s settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by June 9, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Trader Joe’s FACTA settlement following a hearing on August 10, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The Trader Joe’s class action lawsuit alleged that the grocery store, between March 2019 and July 2019, unlawfully printed more than the last five digits of consumers’ credit or debit cards on receipts, in violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, which is an amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
