The $315,000 American International College class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on March 24, 2026. The settlement covers all United States residents whose personal information was potentially compromised in the data breach discovered by the college in November 2023, including anyone who received notice of the incident.
The court-approved website for the American International College (AIC) data breach settlement can be found at AICDataSettlement.com.
According to the website, AIC settlement class members who file a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket losses incurred between November 14, 2023 and July 22, 2026 due to the data breach.
This benefit covers expenses stemming from fraud or identity theft, as well as costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing and/or unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, and postage to contact banks by mail.
Class members must submit proof, such as receipts or bank statements, to receive an out-of-pocket-loss payment.
In addition, all class members can file a claim to receive a pro-rated cash payment of approximately $50, with no proof required. The final amount of this cash payout may increase or decrease, depending on the number of valid claims filed.
Finally, all settlement class members can file a claim form to receive an activation code for two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes financial fraud insurance and monitoring for fraud and identity theft.
As part of the class action settlement, AIC has also agreed to make certain changes to its information security.
To file an American International College settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF of the claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the address of the settlement administrator.
All American International College settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by July 22, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the American International College data breach settlement following a hearing on August 6, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The American International College class action lawsuit claimed that the Massachusetts-based educational institution failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect the sensitive information on its systems, which led to a data breach discovered by the college in November 2023. Per court documents, private information that may have been exposed during the breach included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and financial information.
