The York County School of Technology class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on August 7, 2025 and covers approximately 31,157 people in the United States whose private information was accessed because of the data breach, including those who were notified of the incident by the school.
The court-approved website for the York County School of Technology settlement can be found at YorkDataSettlement.com.
York Tech settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form will be able to receive either up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented, out-of-pocket losses directly related to the data breach or a flat cash payment of $45.
Per the settlement website, class members must submit reasonable documentation of each loss for which they intend to claim for reimbursement. This option also includes reimbursement for up to four hours spent after March 27, 2023 dealing with the effects of the data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour, the site says.
Class members do not need to submit any documentation to claim the $45 cash payment, according to the class action settlement website.
The cash payment option and the reimbursement option are mutually exclusive, the settlement website notes, meaning class members can choose only one to claim.
To submit a claim form online, class members can visit this page of the York data settlement website and log in with the unique ID and PIN found in their copy of the settlement notice.
Alternatively, a PDF of the claim form is available to print, fill out and mail back to the address listed on the first page of the form.
All claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by November 21, 2025.
A hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2025 to determine whether the York Tech settlement will receive final court approval. Payments will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The York Tech class action lawsuit claimed that the York, Pennsylvania school was negligent in its cybersecurity and allowed unauthorized third parties to access and exfiltrate the personal information—including full names, Social Security numbers, addresses and driver’s licenses or state IDs—of more than 31,000 current and former students, applicants and employees between March 27 and April 26, 2023.
