Liberty Transportation, Inc. is facing a lawsuit filed by a former employee who claims the defendant made unlawful deductions from his paychecks and paid him less than the minimum wage.
Liberty Transportation, Inc. is facing a proposed class and collective action filed by a former employee who claims the defendant made unlawful deductions from his paychecks and paid him less than the minimum wage. The plaintiff says he worked for the trucking company as a driver and was classified as an independent contractor even though his relationship with the defendant more closely resembled that of an employee. According to the complaint, the defendant deducted from drivers’ paychecks the cost of “insurance, vehicle lease payments, vehicle maintenance payments, fuel, on board recording devices” and other expenses that often caused their pay to fall below the state and federal minimum wage.
